About the artist
The Dance Kaleidoscope Ensemble is an Indianapolis-based dance company that specializes in contemporary dance. With 41 years under its belt, the dance company is something of an Indianapolis institution, and it has worked with Arts for Learning for every one of those years. Nearly all DK members carry college degrees in dance performance or pedagogy, and 100 percent of them continue their training daily in classical ballet and the Graham Technique. DK performs a four-performance Indianapolis season, and it tours nationally each year. The company’s educational programming consists of 18 different programs and residencies, and during the 2012-13, DK reached more than 26,000 students through its educational programs. According to Lynn Webster, director of education for DK, dance “allows children to express their innermost feelings in a positive and healthy way. In an educational setting, it can promote teamwork. By using her own body as an instrument and her heartbeat as rhythm, any child, in any environment, can create art.” To learn more about Dance Kaleidoscope, visit its website.
