About the artist
Julie Patterson began writing at age nine, sneaking out of bed at night to hide in the closet and write by flashlight. Back then she wrote fiction and poetry, but as an adult she mostly publishes nonfiction. Her work has appeared in magazines, newspapers, and literary journals—and even on the radio. Julie has taught writing for more than seventeen years, working as a visiting artist in Boston and Indianapolis. She also teaches college students, teachers, and other adults who want to write.
When Julie isn’t writing or teaching, you may find her snapping photographs while hiking in the woods, or reading on the porch at her family’s lake cabin. She has a Master of Fine Arts degree in creative writing from Lesley University and a Bachelor of Arts in cognitive psychology from the University of Notre Dame. Julie lives in Indianapolis with her husband, two young children, a black Lab, two cats, and roughly 150,000 honeybees.
