Artist Statement

Tony Styxx is an Indianapolis, IN native who has been a performer on the Indy scene since 2007. As a multi-talented artist, Tony brings spoken word poetry, Hip-Hop emceeing, and human beatboxing to the stage with a charismatic flare like only he can. With current achievements such as performing with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and being a part of the #IndyWelcomesAll campaign, Tony Styxx is bridging the gap between genres and cultures and blazing a trail for artists in the future. Poetry, Hip Hop, and Confidence

Performance

Using spoken word poetry, hip hop lyrics, and beatboxing, this performance encourages students to be confident and courageous in trying new things. This performance helps students get excited about poetry as the artist illustrates how he uses words to create meaningful imagery.

Recipe for an Emcee

Workshop

Using a high energy spoken-word approach to poetry, students will collectively write a hip-hop inspired poem as well as write some of their own poetry lines. Students will learn about using interesting adjectives, adverbs, and similes to enhance their writing. After writing short poetry the students will have an opportunity to recite their work in a cipher train activity.
