Arts for Learning Celebrates National Young Audiences Arts for Learning Week
Indianapolis – March 23, 2016… Arts for Learning will celebrate National Young Audiences Arts for Learning Week (YA Week) from March 27-April 2. During this annual week-long advocacy event, Arts for Learning will be inviting legislators to visit arts in education programming in schools and community centers.
Several state and local representatives have already confirmed their attendance at programs scheduled during YA Week. Indiana State Representative Dan Forestal will be visiting the East Tenth United Methodist Children and Youth Center to observe teaching artist Jingo de la Rosa’s Comic Books for Comprehension workshop. City-County Councilor Jeff Miller will be attending a variety of programs at St. Roch Catholic School. De la Rosa, along with fellow teaching artists Shawn Whistler and Ronne Stone, are involved in year-long residencies at the school.
Arts for Learning celebrates YA Week as an affiliate of the Young Audiences Arts for Learning network, the nation’s largest arts in education learning network. This year, all 30 affiliates will celebrate YA Week by promoting arts in education in their regions.
As the oldest and largest provider of professional arts in education programs in the state, Arts for Learning works with more than 60 teaching artists who provide performances, workshops and residencies to schools, libraries, parks and community organizations. Arts for Learning reaches more than 67,000 Indiana children and youth every year.
