On Monday, December 1st, Arts for Learning staff and volunteers had the pleasure of participating in “Read-In Day” at Center for Inquiry (CFI) #2 in downtown Indianapolis. Participants read stories to students and told about the important role reading has played in each of their lives.
As Ploi Pagdalian, Senior Director of Programming, recalls: “The 1st/2nd grade students in Ms. Fisher’s class had interesting questions about my reading habits. They wanted to see my iPad with my digital books in them… I read Meanwhile by Jules Feiffer. I asked the students to read along with me every time they saw the word “meanwhile,” and I got a chorus of voices throughout the reading. A great class; students were attentive and engaged.”
Arts for Learning enjoys supporting CFI #2 in its efforts to get students excited about reading. Our staff and volunteers eagerly await this day each year. Thank you to Bonnie Beaumont, kindergarten teacher, for including us!
