On Wednesday, December 3rd, the staff of Arts for Learning ventured to Mary Rigg Community Center in Indianapolis to support the organization by helping prepare and serve dinner meals to the senior residents of a nearby facility and the students of Mary Rigg’s afterschool program.
The staff thoroughly enjoyed their time and learned the ins and outs of the typical day in the food pantry at Mary Rigg. Donations from Second Helpings were prepared in advance and Arts for Learning staff continued the preparation by warming the spaghetti and slicing the bread. Staff members also served the plates and took drink orders from the nearly 35 children and 6 senior patrons.
As Julie Harris, Grants and Stewardship Manager, stated:
Every year Mary Rigg provides thousands of meals to children, seniors and families in need. As an arts organization, we were thrilled to be a part of that effort and to share our own resources by bringing in New Augusta Duo to play for the kids and seniors. It was a real break from the norm and I think everyone enjoyed it!
