Founded in 1998, Inside Arts provides arts in education programs to at-risk youth in Indiana Juvenile Detention Centers. This program serves four locations; Marion County Juvenile Detention Center, Bartholomew County Youth Services Center, Pendleton Juvenile Correction Facility, and Hamilton County Juvenile Services Center. Last year, 802 students were engaged through a combination of workshops, performances, and artist residency.
The benefits of this program are more than just educational. It helps students and young adults connect with others on an emotional level. Shawn Charlton of the Bartholomew County location said the following about one of his students who went through the program: “At the end of the performance this girl was in tears because the artists had said they cared about her and knew she would do well in life. She told me later, that she was happy to have had the experience and to know that people cared for her.”
You may be wondering why I’m telling you all of this. Well, Arts for Learning is raising money through #GivingTuesday for Inside Arts. With this program, Ernst & Young has promised to match any donation amount up to $2,500, and every penny will go towards helping these students through Inside Arts. You can help us out by donating here. Think of all the opportunities that these kids may have thanks to your donations, Ernst & Young and Inside Arts!
