NRG Energy, Inc. and Arts for Learning are pleased to announce the winners of the NRG Creatively Green Awards Program. Congratulations to Oaklandon Elementary School of Environmental Studies of Lawrence Township and New Augusta Public Academy South of Pike Township!

These schools will host NRG’s Creatively Green Family Festival in the spring semester. This engaging and dynamic festival offers parents and children the chance to participate in hands-on art making to promote a better understanding of individual and community responsibility to protect our planet. The festival will feature Arts for Learning environmental performances and workshops that will celebrate imagination and creativity. Dates of the festivals are yet to be determined.

Through this opportunity, Arts for Learning is looking forward to strengthening its partnership with Oaklandon Elementary. As one Oaklandon educator states, “hosting an Arts for Learning green festival connects seamlessly with our ongoing school wide environmental focus which includes comprehensive recycling program; gardening as an avenue to teach students about leaving a smaller carbon footprint on our world; conservation and habitat restoration; and community partnerships with the neighborhood that connects the property as well as the major organizations that provide volunteers and talent.”

New Augusta South, a long-time school partner with Arts for Learning, has an existing Go Green Family Night. The NRG’s Creatively Green Family Festival could transform their effort into a bigger community event. “Since 2009…Ms. Wallace’s 5th grade class have hosted a Go Green Family Night event. During this event, industry experts attend and host booths, students act as hosts and experts on their researched topics…we also raise money to donate to Plant a Billion and to the create recycled artwork.”

The NRG Creatively Green Awards process was highly competitive with eight strong applications from 6 districts. The selection process involved staff and members of Arts for Learning’s Board of Directors Program Committee. We extend our appreciation to all the applicants and our congratulations to the winners.

This program is made possible by the generous support of NRG Energy. Inc., through our sister affiliate, Young Audiences New Jersey & Eastern Pennsylvania.

It’s So Easy Being Green!
