  • The Magical Art of Printmaking

    Robin McBride Scott

    Media

Printmaking surrounds us and is an integral part of our society today.  We depend on printed text, advertising and art as a primary source for information and entertainment.   Students will create their own relief printing plates, ink them up and produce a print.  Once a relief plate is made multiple prints can be made from the same plate, unlike other art forms.  As a fine art form, printmaking continues to be recognized around the world for its method, diversity, and beauty.

Students will play with shapes and forms from recycled materials, learn how to fold, bend, score, and attach them to build their own “homes full of friends,” where everyone has a place to stay and a story to tell. Hand-eye coordination, spatial perception, independent decision making, and visual storytelling are important goals of the workshop, but, most importantly, it will be fun!

  • Masks and Scripts

    No Exit Performance

    21st Century Skills Language Arts

How does an artist build a mask and how does an actor act with one? Reading comprehension, theatrical performance, and visual art come together in this multiple-day workshop with the award-winning theatre company NoExit Performance. Young artists will explore character and plot development through making (paper and cardboard) and wearing theatrical masks. Designers and performers from NoExit will guide students, using themes from traditional storytelling, through the creation of an original character mask. Although originally designed as a multiple-day visual art workshop, a one-day “mask petting zoo” is available. The one day workshop explores acting only, no design work.
