Students will learn the literary elements of writing personal narrative through the art of storytelling. By first hearing a story told by a professional storyteller, the students will then be prompted to unpack the story to learn and understand its basic structural elements. By working together to create their own stories, students will put to practice how to organize events that unfold naturally and how to incorporate specific descriptive details that describe feelings, thoughts, and actions. Students will then write down their oral stories and turn them into narratives.
