Adzooks Puppets

About the artist

Adzooks Puppets is comprised of Robin Lee Holm and David Wright, two puppet artists based in Martinsville, Indiana. Robin and David have practiced puppetry for 35 years, and they have worked with Arts for Learning for 18 years. Adzooks presents puppet shows, strolling puppet entertainment, workshops, in-services, and residencies to young audiences, combining visual arts, theater, and storytelling. Together, Robin and David have presented over 3000 performances and workshops to over 250,000 participants at schools, libraries, museums, and festivals. “We focus on helping students bring their ideas, stories, and curriculum to life using puppetry as an art medium to help them better express themselves and better visualize what they are learning,” they say. “We hope to empower their creativity and powers of expression by showing them new avenues of expression and new possibilities for their ideas and what they are learning.” To learn more about Adzooks Puppets, visit their website.

Students will be guided through the process of video game creation through the use of puppetry as a brainstorming tool for video game character and storyline creation and the exploration of puppetry as an analogy for object programming using the drag and drop game design software GameMaker.  *Mobile laptop lab can be provided

Bringing Math Story Problems to Life Through Puppetry

Teacher Training

This three-hour teacher workshop offers a step-by-step strategy for using hand puppetry to teach students to understand and visualize math story problems. Participants will learn to use simple ball and glove puppet pantomime skits to increase their ability to turn equations into story problems, transform story problems into equations, and be more likely to achieve accurate solutions. Puppetry makes math fun!

Punch & Judy Present Puppet Theater

Performance

The classic characters of puppet theater, Punch and Judy, have their roots in the comical characters of the Roman Theater, and have been around for 300 years. In this version of their story, the traditional characters are placed in a modern plot full of intrigue, mischief, and positive, child-friendly problem solving.
