About the artist

In addition to being a ballroom dance instructor, Mr. Whistler has experience in classroom instruction as a former Spanish teacher for grades Kindergarten through 8th grade. His experiences as both an artist and trained educator provide an unique blend to his teaching workshops.

Residency

“Everybody’s doing a brand new dance, now …. Come on baby, do the ….” Robo-Motion. Upgrade your dancing and robotic skills in this unique and interactive residency. Students apply elements of dance choreography to explore how to program robots to move. Students will also explore cause/effect, the scientific method, and graphing skills.

Did you know that building a dance and building a game can be one and the same? Learn essential elements of dance choreography while building essential coding skills through the art of app or video game design. Residency can be customized to meed academic standards in Language Arts, Math, Science, Dance, and Technology. Minimum of 5 workshops up to a full year.

Residency

Students will get hands-on with the computer software GameMaker with step-by-step instructions on how to begin creating their own video game. Interwoven throughout the residency are lessons in creative movement and the relationship between action/reaction in real life and in a video game.  *Mobile laptop lab can be provided
