Indianapolis – August 16, 2017… Arts for Learning will celebrate National Arts in Education Week (September 10-16) by hosting a teacher professional development workshop with Dr. Lori Desautels. The workshop, on how brain science can have a direct impact on student learning and performance, will be held on September 13th, from 6-8pm, at Historical School 27.
Dr. Desautels will speak on the relationship between cognitive and emotional development in children, the impact of stress and adversity on a child’s ability to learn, and ways to boost students’ brain health. Educators can purchase tickets to the workshop by contacting Arts for Learning.
Dr. Desautels is an assistant professor at Butler University in Indianapolis. Her experience includes work as as a behavioral consultant in adolescent psychiatry and co-owner of the Indianapolis Counseling Center. She travels internationally lecturing on how to engage students through neuroscience in education.
As the oldest and largest provider of professional arts in education programs in the state, Arts for Learning works with more than 60 teaching artists who provide performances, workshops and residencies to schools, libraries, parks and community organizations. Arts for Learning reaches nearly 50,000 Indiana children and youth every year.
